Moscow – Qlik® today announced that Russian telecommunications provider VimpelCom is using Qlik Sense® to drive enterprise-wide data democratization and optimization of business processes. With Qlik, VimpelCom now has a single platform from which data can flow across the all the different business units and departments, while also supporting the digital transformation of the organization.
“To ensure we become a truly data-driven organization, we have implemented a top-down approach, where our executive management team is using Qlik analytics in their day-to-day operations with their respective departments,” said Vladimir Baklanov, Head of Business Intelligence, VimpelCom. “Additionally, the operational committee in their weekly meetings use Qlik not only for their presentations, but also have a purpose-built dashboard that highlights key performance indicators of the business, allowing the team to be more agile in their decision-making process. This dashboard is now the standard within the company. In using Qlik, we have been able to create a single source of truth for all our data which provides us with reliable results to support the decisions made across the business.”
VimpelCom has also created a Centre of Excellence (CoE) to encourage users to create Qlik-based apps with the same corporate look and feel for use across the organization. This approach has helped the company to shorten decision-making cycles.
While increasing the speed at which apps are being developed, the CoE also has helped drive the adoption and use of data analytics further within the organization. To help remove any barriers of entry for those wanting to work with data, the CoE has created a data literacy course which helps train staff in using Qlik, providing them with the necessary tools to understand, analyze and use data with confidence.
“Creating a data literacy course around Qlik has allowed us to provide the staff with an opportunity to upskill, and learn how to use and interrogate data analytics within the visual apps they have created. Most importantly, this approach means that all our data now sits within a single Qlik application, and we can use it for interactive meetings instead of Excel reports or PowerPoint,” added Baklanov.
Going forward, VimpelCom also plans to expand the use of the Qlik analytics platform, incorporating location-based data with the help of Qlik GeoAnalytics, combining geographic data with various data sources to improve its existing geo-mapping and increase the value of the map visualizations.
“VimpelCom not only proves the efficiency and effectiveness of having a data democratization approach, but it also demonstrates the success that can be achieved from it,” said Alexei Artemenko, Regional Director for Qlik Russia and CIS. “By training staff and building internal processes for the company to confidently embark on the data-driven approach, the company is succeeding in its digital transformation.”
