MSSQL replication refers to technologies used for copying and distributing data and database objects from a Microsoft SQL Server database to another database, a data warehouse, or other type of data repository—and keeping that data synchronized. MSSQL replication is commonly used to offload batch processing tasks from an online transaction processing system to a server for analytics and reporting, to consolidate data from multiple sites or different database systems, or to share data with other teams or remote offices. Although some editions of SQL Server offer built-in MSSQL replication capabilities, many firms find that Qlik SQL replication solution, Qlik Replicate®, provides simpler, real-time and universal data integration across all major data platforms.
SQL Server supports three main types of MSSQL replication: snapshot replication, transactional replication, and merge replication, in addition to SQL Server change data capture and change tracking. Snapshot replication, the most resource-intensive type of SQL Server replication, copies an entire dataset and is mostly used for setting up other types of replication. Merge replication, a bidirectional form of SQL database replication, is generally used to keep data consistent on systems that cannot be continuously connected.
Transactional replication, the most common form of MSSQL replication, is typically used to duplicate and move data from one server to another server(s) in near real time. With transactional SQL Server data replication, you can select the individual tables you want to replicate, filter data by row and/or by column, and capture and move data changes using an independent distribution server.
Qlik Replicate is a powerful data integration solution that makes configuring, monitoring, and managing MSSQL replication tasks simpler and less time-consuming by providing you with an intuitive web-based graphical interface, by automating the end-to-end replication process, and by loading data into your targets efficiently. Our Click-2-Replicate designer eliminates the need for custom scripting and specialized ETL skills, letting you move data easily when and where you need it with drag-and-drop functionality.
With Qlik Replicate, there's no need to install software on either source or target. Our zero-footprint change data capture technology identifies live source updates by reading change logs rather than using invasive triggers, minimizing overhead on your source systems. Moreover, Qlik Replicate supports the broadest range of source and target systems, including all major relational databases and data warehouses as well as legacy systems and Hadoop, both on premises and in the cloud. This includes tight integration with SQL Server, thanks to a longstanding technology partnership with Microsoft.
